We run FREE Nurdle Hunts every couple of months at Charmouth. If you want to reduce the amount of plastic in our seas and help wildlife, come along!
All nurdles collected will be washed and added to our Nurdle Tube on display here in the Centre!
Come and join us on our FREE Charmouth Beach Cleans! We run a few beach cleans a year to help clean up Charmouth beach and make it a safer place for both wildlife and us.
We usually meet at the bottom of the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre steps. All equipment is provided and you can stay for as long or as little as you like. Most of our beach cleans last 1.5 hours.
All children need to be accompanied by an adult.
Check our list of marine events to see when the next beach clean is scheduled.
Enjoy a fossil walk with your personal Warden and find your own Jurassic fossils to take home! Perfect for birthdays, families and independent groups.
Your 2 hour session will take place entirely outdoors, where you will head straight onto the beach to hunt for fossils with your Guide. We will take you to the best places for finding fossils, and give you tips and tricks on how to hunt for them. Anything you find on your walk is yours to keep! To get you up to speed and wet your appetite for fossil hunting, prior to your walk we will send you out an introductory talk video, where your Warden will give you an insight into the local rocks and fossils to be found here, and you’ll see plenty of examples of what to look for too.
We will be adhering to strict 2m social distancing for the duration of your fossil walk. Please do not visit if you or a member of your social bubble has displayed covid – 19 symptoms in the last 14 days. If you have booked a walk with us and start displaying symptoms, please contact us as soon as possible, where a full refund will be given.
These walks are tide dependent. Our professional Wardens can tailor the walk to all needs and abilities, so please contact us for more details. Advanced booking is essential. Book via our Events Calendar.
Charges: £95 for up to 6 people. Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Meeting point: Red lifebuoy outside Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre. Your Warden will be wearing a blue high visibility jacket with our logo on.
Site information: Some uneven ground with sand, pebbles and boulders. Please note some areas of the beach are very muddy. Please be suitably dressed for the elements and wear footwear with good tread.
Prior to Covid-19 we also catered for larger interest groups too. Please contact us for more details.
The Fossil Film Show and Warden Talk gives an overview of the geology of the World Heritage Site ‘Jurassic Coast’. We focus on how fossils are formed and the types of fossils that can be found on Charmouth beach.
There are two versions of the film show available depending on the age of the children. The film is followed by a Warden talk around the fossil touch table, where the children are shown real specimens that have been found on the beach with information about how these creatures would have lived in the Jurassic seas.
