Fossil Hunting Walks

Boy holding ammoniteJoin one of our guided Fossil Walks with the Wardens to find and take home your own Jurassic fossil!

This two hour session starts up at the Centre with a 20 minute talk from the Centre Warden about the fossils of Charmouth and how to find fossils on the beach. The group then heads out onto the beach with the wardens and spend the rest of the session looking for fossils.

The Centre has a high ratio of Wardens to members of the public on every walk. During school holidays booking is essential and we advise that you arrive 10 minutes before the walk is scheduled to start to pick up your tickets.

Charges: £8 Adult, £4 Child (2 years and under go free). All children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Meeting point: Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre
Site information: Some uneven ground with sand, pebbles and boulders. Please note some areas of the beach are very muddy. Please be suitably dressed for the elements and wear footwear with good tread.

Fossil Fantastic Days and Weekends

fossil fantastic daysJoin the Warden Team at the Centre for a whole day or weekend of fossil hunting and activities for families and children. Lots of fun for everyone!

If you have ever wanted to try your hand at fossil collecting, then join us for a full day of fossil fun aimed specifically at families and children.

Our experienced wardens will be delighted to share their knowledge and experience with you. You have the option to book in for just one day, a whole weekend or a choice of two separate days within the scheduled dates.

Our next Fossil Fantastic event will be scheduled in for Autumn 2018. Details will be available nearer the time.

Fossil Hunting

fossil huntingTake your class out on the beach where they can discover and take home their own fossils with our trained Wardens.

The session starts at the Centre with a short film show entitled “Finding Fossils at Charmouth”, followed by a warden talk around the fossil touch table with top tips on what to look for and how to find it!

All relevant health and safety information is given to the children before heading out onto the beach accompanied by the warden to look for fossils. All finds during the day can be taken back to school or home at the end of the session. We advise you to bring a small freezer bag for each child to put their fossils in.

Rockpool Rambles

hermit crabJoin the Marine Warden on a Rockpool Ramble to explore the fascinating creatures of the seashore and how they live, love and do lunch!

Suitable for any age, this event is run at Broad Ledge in Lyme Regis and lasts for 1 and ½ hours. As the tide goes out the ledges here are exposed and rockpools, which are full of life, are revealed. Our experienced Warden will help you to discover the amazing plants and animals living on our shores.


Charges: £4 Adult, £3 Child. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Site information: Some uneven ground with sand, pebbles and boulders. Please be suitably dressed for the elements as it can get cold on Broad Ledge even in the summer. Please wear footwear with good grip that you don’t mind getting wet, such as wellies or walking boots.
Distance: A short walk of approximately 100 metres takes us to Broad Ledge.

Booking is essential.
